Sri Sankara Kendram, Adambakkam – Keerti Stambam & Pravachana Mandapam

As per the directions of HIS HOLINESS THE MAHASWAMIGAL OF KANCHI THE SANKARA KENDRAM was Conceived and Foundation was laid on 10th July 1988 by HIS HOLINESS THE ACHARYA OF KANCHI. Originally the Kendram was to comprise of a Keerthi sthambam and a Dhyana Mandapam. After the MAHA SAMADHI of SRI MAHAPERIAVAL, Their Holiness the Acharyas of Kanchi desired that the Keerthi Sthambam should be for SRI ADI SANKARA as well as the MAHASWAMIGAL.

During the Satabthi Year of SRI MAHASWAMIGAL (and subsequently) THEIR HOLINESS the ACHARYAS OF KANCHI offered the SRI PADUKAS of SRI ADISANKARA, the money required for the construction of the sanctum sanctorum and the timber required for the doors. The sanctum sanctorum was completed and the Sri Padukas were consecrated on 15th May 1994. The Dhayana Mandapam was completed in 1995.

At this stage POOJYA SRI MURALIDHARA SWAMIGAL visited the kendram and His guidance is helping the development and growth of the project, thereafter, in Febraury 1999, A TIRUPPANI COMMITTEE was constituted, under the Charimanship of SRI R. KUPPUSWAMY IYER, ADVOCATE. The Committee under the able and efficient leadership of Sri Kuppuswamy Iyer completed the Pravachana Mandapam and Keerthi Sthambam. The Pravachana Mandapam was inaugurated by his HOLINESS JAGADGURU SRI JAYENDRA SARASWATHY SWAMIGAL OF KANCHI ON 21st July 1999. The arrangements for the Kumbabishekam were blessed and initiated by THEIR HOLINESS THE ACHARYAS OF KANCHI JAGADGURU SRI JAYENDRA SARASWATHY SWAMIGAL AND JAGADGURU SRI SANKARA VIJAYENDRA SARASWATHY SWAMIGAL during Their visit to the Kendram on 3rd December 1999 and the Kumbabishekam itself was performed on 19th January 2000 in a grand manner.

About 25 protraits depicting the lives of Sri Adi Sankara and Sri Mahaswamigal and a life like statue of SRI MAHASWAMIGAL are the pending itmes of work, as far as the Keerthi Sthambam is concerned.

A Veda Patasala and a centre for undertaking research on the thoughts, words and deeds of SRI MAHAPERIAVAL have been planned by the Thiruppani Committee. The work on the building for patasala has commenced on 10 the February 2000. THE COMMITTEE SOLICITS HELP AND ASSISTANCE FROM ALL DEVOTEES.
